The shoes are a state of the art: totally futuristic. Firstly, they are lite and allowed us to effortlessly do our signature jumps. Secondly, their comfort is out of this world and we all know comfort takes one a long way. Last but not least, we were taken with the shoes' grip; nothing makes a hike safer than a shoe with a perfect rubber outsole.

I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet and when it came to hiking boots I could never quite find a spot for them in my collection. Strangely enough, when it came to another pair of heels, I would always be able to make a plan.

Lacing up my first pair of hiking boots

My Hi-Tec boots were sure put to the test on this trail. In the past I always hiked with normal sneak-ers on which left me really unsure of my footing. I would slip and slide when rocks were a bit sandy and had to bum crawl on steep rock faces. With my new hiking boots the trail was a breeze, I could just go without doubting the grip or if my feet would slide out from under me ensuring I landed on my bum. The added ankle support is also a dream. I did boxing for a year and found out I actually have really weak ankles so the support was really reassuring.

Gear Review: Kai Fitchen puts our Trail OX Chukkas to the test!

Over the past couple of years, I’ve been looking for a do-anything boot. I’m generally hiking with a heavy pack to a crag or exploring a ravine. What I generally look for is an aggressive tread that will perform on anything from abrasive granite to slippery and muddy terrain. This winter I managed to get my hands on the new OX chukkas from HI-TEC.
