May 22, 2017

As the anticipation grew, excitement flourished and Hermanus was on the verge of its seat waiting for the 2017 Walkerbay Xtreme to kick off. This multi-sport adventure challenge was held in the heart of one of South Africa’s gems. Athletes, top athletes, Olympians and pro triathletes visited this popular holiday town on the southern coast of the Western Province to participate in South Africa’s new one of a kind extreme sports festival.

Those early morning races...

Why one-of-a-kind?

Athletes from all over, but also friends and families had the opportunity to take part in some great family fun activations, enjoy the beautiful scenery with some lovely wine, great food and a view that could not have been more perfect (especially those that attended the 8am race kick-offs). On Saturday, just after the Cliff Path Xtreme, the HI-TEC Xtreme Fun Family Pirate Walk kicked off with over 30 little pirates and their parents on the hunt for their treasure along the cliff path of Hermanus. We had Captain Hook leading the bunch and maps showing each treasure station.

Mari Rabie, South African Olympic Triathlete and James Reid, Rio Olympian, joined the Walkerbay Xtreme on Saturday afternoon to race the Urban Xtreme to raise awareness for the Black Mamba’s in the Western Cape Region. Both athletes won their titles respectively and they looked so cool in their specially made Black Mamba Cycling Gear.

Something for everyone.

From #FindYourZen to #FindYourXtreme there was an event for everyone to take part in. On Saturday afternoon, just after the Urban Xtreme, Brenna Coupland from Stellenbosch Power Fit Studio hosted a small but super fun and intimate Pilates in the park activation for all the ladies that were looking for some downtime during the event.
